    The question and answers are to general, any of the answers could be true, it doesnt even account for setting enforced by the guest OS.

    check the note section:

    Note: The guest operating system now shows a virtual NIC that is operating at 100M. Despite this, if the host actually has a 1G NIC, that is the speed that the virtual NIC actually operates at. It is only the display inside the guest operating system that show 100M.
