A company determines a need for additional protection from rogue devices plugging into physical
ports around the building.
Which of the following provides the highest degree of protection from unauthorized wired network
access?
A.
Intrusion Prevention Systems
B.
MAC filtering
C.
Flood guards
D.
802.1x
Explanation:
IEEE 802.1x is an IEEE Standard for Port-based Network Access Control (PNAC). It is part of the
IEEE 802.1 group of networking protocols and provides an authentication mechanism to wireless
devices connecting to a LAN or WLAN.
The question is particular about wired network and not wireless, but the answer is directed to wireless, I think the best answer is ‘MAC filtering’

802.1x does apply to both wired and wireless, but it specifically asks about port security, which is covered under 802.1x. MAC filtering doesn’t have to do with ports specifically. You can assign MAC Addresses to certain ports, but 802.1x is the better answer.

I agree with Jarrod, MAC’s can be spoofed.. the 802.1x will allow you to add authentication. So if you are able to spoof the MAC you will still need to authenticate the device on the network to have access.
