Matt, a security consultant, has been tasked with increasing server fault tolerance and has been
given no budget to accomplish his task. Which of the following can Matt implement to ensure
servers will withstand hardware failure?

A.
Hardware load balancing

B.
RAID

C.
A cold site

D.
A host standby

Explanation:
Fault tolerance is the ability of a system to sustain operations in the event of a component failure.
Fault-tolerant systems can continue operation even though a critical component, such as a disk
drive, has failed. This capability involves overengineering systems by adding redundant
components and subsystems. RAID can achieve fault tolerance using software which can be done
using the existing hardware and software.

  1. Salman says:

RAID is implemented on Storage media like hard drives it has nothing to do with other hardware failures , either this question is wrong or the answer is wrong because it doesn’t specify hardware only as storage media

Salman, in the comptia book it says clearly:
“Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is a technology that uses multiple disks to
provide fault tolerance.” The only one that does not provide fault tolerance is RAID level 0

Please read the book before posting so that you do not confuse the rest of us. Thank you.

    1. Salman says:

you should read question before replying , question is not asking for the definition of RAID or what RAID do , it is asking for increasing server fault tolerance and RIAD cannot do any fault tolerance in case of Server hardware failure (like power supply failure) also RAID is not always built-in (most of the time it is but not always) so you still need money to implement it , so question must specify what type of fault tolerance is required , so please stop telling people to read books and get some knowledge yourself

      thanks

I’m sorry I gave you the impression I did not read the question. I did.

It asks for fault tolerance, in order for the servers to withstand hardware failure.

Now from options A, B, C and D, which of these 4 deals with fault tolerance?

and thats the exact problem with this question that it is ambiguous it says server hardware failure not disk failure , so now if a motherboard dies then from options A, B, C and D, which of these 4 deals with fault tolerance ?
