I disagree with Tony. If you are 100% literal about selecting “Create a Baseline” then Tony would have a point. However the Definition of the EVC Modes are to apply a baseline of processor features, Example: VMWare EVC Mode: Intel “Nehalem” Generation Description reads, “Applies the baseline features of Intel “nehalem” Generation (Xeon Core i7 processors to all hosts in teh cluster. Hosts with the following processor types will be permitted to enter the cluster: ….” I would say by selecting it I did create a baseline on my cluster.

You may have “created” a baseline on your cluster but you did not create a *new* baseline, nor did you add only the latest processor family as you dont have the option to do this.

Sorry one more point I meant to add. Answer B assumes I did not just add 25 Hosts to my 5 old host environment. Then I would be saying please use the older (fewer) servers as the basline.

Agree with Jason…especially based on his second comment, which was the first thing that came in to my head after I read that answer. B and A are both on the same level of correctness, they are both dependent on how many CPUs are a part of the family and completely relative. What if the oldest baseline had 5 CPUs listed and the newest had 50. Then B would actually be selecting the oldest CPUs, not the newest. The reverse also makes A incorrect. D is a much more correct answer as far as I can tell.

I would say answer B is the correct one.
A lists the most CPUs which means also older CPUs are included
C is wrong because any baseline contains “Future Intel processors”
D is not possible because you cannot create an new EVC baseline (as far as I know)
So B should be correct one because the EVC baseline for the newest Intel CPUs contains only the newest CPU families which should be the fewest CPUs. Any EVC baseline for older Intel CPUs contains the older CPU family plus any newer ones.
That’s the intention of EVC – make older CPUs compatible with newer ones for vMotion.
