Any references? I’ve found no exact explanation but I think that A is wrong. Docs say that you must have local and domain administrator permissions to install vCenter, but it doesn’t mean that only one domain account must have these rights. And if we talk about accounts under which the services run: “The vCenter Server instances in a Linked Mode group do not need to have the same domain user login. The instances can run under different domain accounts.” http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.vsphere.vcenterhost.doc_50/GUID-473CD830-F8F2-4FF1-A714-8EC1A6AEB298.html#GUID-473CD830-F8F2-4FF1-A714-8EC1A6AEB298

“The vCenter Server instances in a Linked Mode group do not need to have the same domain user login. The instances can run under different domain accounts. By default, they run as the LocalSystem account of the
machine on which they are running, which means they are different accounts.”
“The vCenter Server instances in a Linked Mode group can be in different domains if the domains have a two-way trust relationship. Each domain must trust the other domains on which vCenter Server instances are
    installed.”
“You cannot join a Linked Mode group during the upgrade procedure when you are upgrading from VirtualCenter 2.x to vCenter Server 4.0. You can join after the upgrade to vCenter Server is complete”
