    This question clear ask what method of CHAP authentication mechanism is available only for software iSCSI and dependent hardware iSCSI, but not for independent hardware iSCSI?

    It is definitely “B” for other setup it is per-target CHAP.

    Strange question. The documentation http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.vsphere.storage.doc_50/GUID-AC65D747-728F-4109-96DD-49B433E2F266.html
    states ” For software and dependent hardware iSCSI adapters, ESXi also supports per-target CHAP authentication, which allows you to configure different credentials for each target to achieve greater level of security.”

    In which case the answer is “C” But;

    Then on the next page under “authentication method” it says
    “ESXi supports one-way CHAP for all types of iSCSI initiators, and mutual CHAP for software and dependent hardware iSCSI.”
    So if it’s actually referring to Authentication Method the answer is “B”
    Since the question above says “Mechanism” and not “Method” it’s really not clear.
