What should you run on each Hyper-V host?

DRAG DROP
Yournetwork contains one Active Directory domain. The domain contains two Hyper-V hosts named
Host1 and Host2 that run Windows Server 2012 R2. Host1 contains a virtual machine named DC5.
DC5 is a domain controller that runs Windows Server 2012 R2.
You configure Active Directory to support domain controller cloning for DC5, and then you shut
down DC5.
You need to create a clone of DC5 on Host2.
What should you run on each Hyper-V host? To answer, drag the appropriate commands or cmdlets
to the correct Hyper-v hosts. Each command or cmdlet may be used once, more than once, or not
at all. You may need to drag the split bar between panes or scroll to view content.

Host1: Export-VM
Host2: Import-VM

Use import and export feature, when you want to create a new virtual machine with the same
configuration of an existing machine in Hyper-V.
The Export-VM cmdlet exports a virtual machine to disk.
The Import-VM cmdlet imports a virtual machine from a file. Overview of exporting and importing a virtual machine

Does not make sence to me, it will be the same VM, in the sence that all SID’s etc remain, correct? No sysprep is run on import….

so this is weird, can someone explain?

It says that AD was prepared for cloning DC5 that means that Cloningfile for DC5 was already done.

The Question explicitly asking for cmd to be run on the hosts not the VM.

Lets put this question to bed once and for all.

First, the question states, “You configure Active Directory to support domain controller cloning for DC5, and then you shut down DC5.”

This means you have already ran the necessary “New-ADDCCloneConfigFile”, including “Get-ADDCCloningExcludedApplicationList” without running both of those, the “Get-ADDCCloningExcludedApplicationList” command cannot evaluate running apps and services on the VM you want to CLONE, which means it may not clone at ALL. So the simple fact the question states this right here “You configure Active Directory to support domain controller cloning for DC5” means you’ve done the above mentioned PowerShell commands.

Then the question further states “you shut down DC5”. You would NOT be able to run “New-ADDCCloneConfigFile” on a shut down VM…this is common sense.

Now, inside of HYPER-V Manager…you now are able to EXPORT the shutdown Virtual Machine to the EXPORT directory of HOST 1. And then copy it to the IMPORT directory of Host 2….
Back in HYPER-V Manager-use the “copy the virtual machine” function.

    Restart the shutdown VM’s…

The answer for this question is:

    Host1: Export-VM

    Host2: Import-VM

  4. Aberdeen Angus says:

At the risk of wasting my time on a 70-411 question…

“You configure Active Directory to support domain controller cloning for DC5” might just mean that DC5 has been added to the Cloneable Domain Controllers group.

And some clever person, on another version of this question, pointed out that New-ADDCCloneConfigFile has an offline mode:
“the New-ADDCCloneConfigFile cmdlet will generate a DCCloneConfig.xml file at a suitable location based on the parameter values supplied. This cmdlet can also be run from a client (with Remote Server Administration Tools) and used to generate a DCCloneConfig.xml against offline media of the domain controller being cloned”

    I’m going with those guys:
    Host1 : New-ADDCCloneConfigFile
    Host2 : Import-VM

Here’s the other version I mean, you can see some of them say Import-VM afterwards. https://www.aiotestking.com/microsoft/you-need-to-create-a-clone-of-dc5-on-host2-what-should-you-run-on-each-hyper-v-host-to-answer-drag-the-appropriate-commands-or-cmdlets-to-the-correct-hyper-v-hosts-2/
