Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com.
The domain contains a domain controller named DC1 that runs Windows Server 2012 R2.
You create an Active Directory snapshot of DC1 each day.
You need to view the contents of an Active Directory snapshot from two days ago.
What should you do first?

A.
Stop the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) service.
B.
Run the ntdsutil.exe command.
C.
Run the dsamain.exe command.
D.
Start the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
This is correct.
You must use ntdsutil so that you know the snapshot GUID. After that, you can use DSAMAIN to expose the snapshot.

Answer is correct simply because of the fact that there are multiple snapshots. In order to pick the right one from 2 days ago, you have to list them all and mount the one you need to view, That’s done with NTDSUTIL: “Run Ntdsutil.exe to list the snapshots that are available and then mount the snapshot that you want to view.”, taken from here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753609(v=ws.10).aspx.
If you had only one snapshot, you wouldn’t need NTDSUTIL, and you could go straight away to DSAMAIN, as you can read here: “You are not required to run the ntdsutil snapshot operation to use Dsamain.exe. You can instead use a backup of the AD DS or AD LDS database or another domain controller or AD LDS server. The ntdsutil snapshot operation simply provides a convenient data input for Dsamain.exe.”. That’s taken from the same link i posted.
