i also think B and C are the right answers.

    Uninstall-WindowsFeature -Remove
Removes the Payload from the Windows Server.

You can do this also only for not installed Features with this PS line:
    Get-WindowsFeature | Where-Object {$_.Installed –eq $False} | Uninstall-WindowsFeature -Remove

you are right but the answer in the question says “Remove-WindowsFeature” not “Uninstall-WindowsFeature” and I know that for 2012 R2 the Uninstall-WindowsFeature is the right cmdlet. is the answer wrong or is it a point of the question?
      I’m confused…

looks like remove-windowsfeature is an alias for uninstall-windowsfeature

        1. MancaMulas says:

It’s not an alias, on Server 2012 or R2 (not sure), they changed the Remove-WindowsFeature to Uninstall-WindowsFeature, although it still is recognized.

As for the question itself, i agree with answer C, but i cannot see why the other answers have anything to do with the question though.

Why are we removing anything? The question doesn’t say anything about removing features. It just asked what installation to use for installing features. I’m confused unless I’ve overlooked something.

  3. Nedim says:

That what I think is that Microsoft wants that we remove roles and features first and than that we specify new source for installation which is located on network share. You need to remove those roles and features first and than specify new location from which you will install it. In another words what is the point of specifying a new location if we have those roles on server if self. So the answer shoud be B and C

If the binaries for roles/features are on the local hard drive side-by-side store, WS2012 will use them as the source for installing roles and features. You first need to remove those via dism or powershell.

This article explains it in details:

  5. MalotJean says:

You need to remove files from the side-by-side store first (C:\Windows\Winsxs), or installation source specified in the GPo will not be used.
This can be done in two ways:

    DISM.exe with /Disable-Feature option
    Uninstall-WindowsFeature with the -remove option
(Remove-WindowsFeature in Windows Server 2012 forwards to the Uninstall-WindowsFeature cmdlet and has the same effect)

/remove-package is used to remove a specified .cab file package from the image. It has the same effect as Remove-WindowsPackage cmdlet. Both are not relevant.

Correct answer are B and C

I also think the answer should be B and C.

    My explanation:
    A) Removes a package from a wim file that is not the question https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824838.aspx
    B) To prevent the local installation files are used instead of the one from the wim file (remove parameter) : https://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj205471%28v=wps.620%29.aspx
    C) To ensure that the wim file is used : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825020.aspx

  8. Wei says:

    For those not clear:

As folks said above, You need to remove the binary files from the side-by-side store first. That’s why we need extra step besides C.

    The problem is:

Dism.exe supports online OS, and /Remove-Package supports running OS too. The only slight issue is this command only support .CAB file, not .MSU file.

While Remove-WindowsFeature on Windows 2012 will invoke Uninstall-WindowsFeature, which can do the same work as > Dism /online /Remove-Package.

So, if anyone know the absolute correct answer, would you please help?

Configure alternate sources for feature files in Group Policy
The Group Policy setting described in this section specifies authorized source locations for .NET Framework 3.5 files, and other feature files that have been removed as part of a Features on Demand configuration. The policy setting Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair is located in the Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System folder in the Group Policy Management Console or Local Group Policy Editor.
