I don’t think you are able to use templates with MCS… templates are only visible from PVS.
You need a gold image for MCS. When you create a Machine Catalog you can edit how much RAM and disk space the new machines should have but you cannot change the CPUs. These are picked up from the master image itself.

master target device is PVS terminology. This is about MCS. They might refer to using custom templates from the XenServer hosting environment.
