Link Control Protocol (LCP) forms part of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), within the family of Internet protocols. In setting up PPP communications, both the sending and receiving devices send out LCP packets to determine the standards of the ensuing data transmission.
LCP also negotiates the type of authentication protocol used to establish the PPP session. Different authentication protocols are supported for satisfying the security needs of different environments. LCP can negotiate the following authentication protocols:

LCP as the first phase protcol during PPP connection initialization, it takes care of configuration parameters such as negotiating authentication, link speed, stop bit, etc…then it terminates leaving it to the NCP.
