Your network contains an Active Directory forest named contoso.com.
The contoso.com domain only contains domain controllers that run Windows Server 2012 R2.
The forest contains a child domain named child.contoso.com.
The child.contoso.com domain only contains domain controllers that run Windows Server 2008 R2.
The child.contoso.com domain contains a member server named Server1 that runs Windows Server 2012 R2.
You have access to four administrative user accounts in the forest. The administrative user accounts are configured as shown in the following table.

    quite unsure about this…

the referenced article states that at first you have to run adprep /forestprep.
To do so it is stated that:
“Make sure that you can log on to the schema master with an account that has sufficient credentials to run adprep /forestprep. You must be a member of the Schema Admins group, the Enterprise Admins group, and the Domain Admins group of the domain that hosts the schema master, which is, by default, the forest root domain”

so, the given answer would imply that this was done before, but it is not stated in the question… :-/

    any idea? anyone?

My guess is the given answer is correct. While yes you need to run ADprep /forestprep first before you run ADprep /domainprep, the top domain, contoso.com is already running windows server 2012 R2. So this makes me think that ADprep /forestprep has already been run on the forest because some DCs in the forest are already running Server 2012 R2. This means that one would only need to run ADprep /domainprep on the domain that is getting the new server.
