A system administrator completed a WebSphere Application Server installation by using the
Installation Manager. During installation, all defaults were selected for the installation root
directories and the shared resources directory. Over time, the administrator has updated the
installation with various interim fixes and fix packs. The administrator notices that the shared
resources directory is very large in size and grows larger each time the Installation Manager is run.
How can the administrator decrease the size and remove some of the content from the shared
resources directory?
A.
Manually delete content from the directory.
B.
During an update, create a new shared resources directory.
C.
Clear the Delete Saved Files option for the Installation Manager.
D.

The data stored in the shared data directory is used only for a package rollback if a product
repository is not available. The amount of shared data can become large if you have several
products installed. You can delete the shared data contents just after using Installation
Manger if you have access to the product repositories. As an alternative, you can ask
Installation Manager to discard the cache objects by adding the preference value
-preferences com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.preserveDownloadedArtifacts=false

Answer A. disk is already full. so c will help in future. question says “How can the administrator decrease the size and remove some of the content from the shared

The data stored in the shared data directory is used only for a package rollback if a
product repository is not available. The amount of shared data can become large if you have several products installed. If you have access to the product repositories, you can delete the shared data contents after using Installation Manger. As an alternative, you can ask Installation Manager to discard the cache objects by adding the preference value
shown in Example 4-1 to the imcl install command.

When this key is set to true, the files that are required to roll the package back to a previous version are stored on your computer.
When this key is set to false, files that are required for a rollback or an update are not stored. If you do not store these files, you must connect to your original repository or media to roll back a package. When the preference is changed from true to false, the stored files are deleted the next time that you install, update, modify, roll back, or uninstall a package.
When you use the -preferences com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.preserveDownloadedArtifacts=false option in an imcl command, the stored files are deleted when the command runs.
Iin Installation Manager you can save files for rollback: click File > Preferences > Files for Rollback and then select Save files for rollback. On the OS X operating system, the Preferences option is under the IBM Installation Manager menu.
