            By deleting the DB subnet, we are now allowed to make changes to WEB. We need WEB to be bigger since the following subnet cannot be bigger than the previous one.
            WEB should be same (or bigger) size of what DB needs to be.

      you CANNOT make DB bigger if you dont make the previous subnet (WEB) bigger as well.
      In your answer, you cant recreate anything, becasue you’ll only be able to recreate DB as the same size it is now since you didnt change the size in WEB

    I have tested this and seems this below is correct. the web subnet could not be deleted before deleting DB subnet and DB subnet can’t be changed without deleting the websubnet.
    Empty and delete the DB subnet

    REcreate the virtual network as now required.

      There are plenty of IP addresses available, so you can easily delete the DB subnet and then recreate it bigger without having to delete the Web subnet.

      Question is, what would be the third answer then, as recreate the Virtual Network does not sound correct.

      If you set up a virtual network with the subnets above in Azure, you will find that after you empty and delete the DB Subnet, you cannot only recreate it at the same size or smaller. Once you empty the web subnet and make it larger, you can then recreate the DB subnet at a larger size.

      I can’t find the reference now, but apparently Variable Length Subnet Masking requires subnets to be listed in descending order of size. My test results in Azure confirm this.

    Ashish and Pras are correct. I’ve tested it in the Azure portal you must first delete then reconfigure the Web Subnet to be larger before you can create the DB Subnet.

    I agree with Ashish and Pras. I’ve tested this in my Azure subscription. You can’t make the DB subnet larger in one step.

    You HAVE to do it in the order:
    1. Empty and delete the DB subnet
    2. Empty and reconfigure the Web subnet to be larger
    3. Create the DB subnet to be larger

    There is no need to Delete the Web subnet. You could, but it’s unnecessary for this question. If the question was asking to add IPs to the Apps subnet, then yes you would have to delete both the DB and Web subnets before you can modify the size of the subnet for Apps. If you delete Web for this question, you would need more than three steps to complete the task.

    Think about what you have to do to recreate the Virtual network. The vnet is the container that holds all the subnets. So, recreating means you have to delete it. Have you ever tried to move a VM from one vnet to another? I think the only way to do that is to delete the VM and keep the disks. Then you have to build a new VM in the new vNET and attach the old disks to the VM.

    Ashish Pras & David is correct, Tested it yet again in my Azure Env and you dont need to recreate the virtual network. You can’t make the DB Subnet larger easily and have to reconfigure the web subnet to be larger first.

    I just set this up in Azure, tried it and it seems you cannot edit and make the DB subnet bigger, you only have the option of making it /29.

    I agree with most of the others:

    You cannot make a subnet any bigger than the one before, so the obvious first step is to Empty and delete the DB subnet. The second step, for me, has 2 options. I cannot modify or delete a subnet that contains VMs, so I have to empty the Web subnet. I could then either delete or reconfigure. If I delete the Web subnet, i would have to recreate it, which would mean 4 steps would be needed. As I only have 3 steps, step 2 must be Empty and reconfigure the Web subnet to be larger. The 3rd step would then be create the DB subnet to be larger. So to sum up Marc and Challenge are correct

    step 1: Empty and delete the DB subnet (you cannot deleted, recreated or reconfigure Web Subnet directly).
    step 2: Empty and reconfigure the Web subnet to be larger (once the subnet DB was deleted, you can reconfigure Web subnet to be longer, you don’t need to deleted it or deleted the whole Virtual Network).
    step 3: Create the DB subnet to be larger. (Now, you are able to created two longer subnets).
