So my thinking behind this. The fact that attributes are mentioned means Active directory is involved, which means a domain is involved. Federation will be needed for the integration to third party systems.
Transitive trust is needed so the two domains trust each other back and fourth.
Single Sign On is this third party system linking with the users domain password
