  1. Michael Churchill says:

A split brain condition occurs in a cluster when the private network that is responsible for cluster sync is unavailable
In Cisco UCs a SEEPROM on the 5108 mid-plane is used to resolve the split-brain condition

There are two types of split brain

Partition in space : Occurs when the L1/L2 links fail this results in the following issues
    Risk of active/active management nodes
Both nodes are demoted to subordinate and a quorum race begins
The node that claims the resource wins

Partition in time : Occurs when node boots alone in the cluster this results in the following issue
Risk of applying old config to UCs components
Node compares it database version against the SEEPROM and discovers that its version number is lower than current database version
This node will not become the active management node
