Embrace—A company that values BYOD highly and has few security
concerns simply opens up network access to users’ devices. Users can
connect to any resource on any device they choose.

Disregard—A company that takes this approach simply ignores any userowned
devices introduced into the network. If employees can successfully
connect their devices, the company does not care if the employees use them.
On the other hand, the company offers no encouragement or help for
connecting the devices. Many companies take this approach by default.
However, companies only should use it when BYOD truly poses no risks to
their IT resources—and also offers no benefit.

Contain—Recommended for most companies by Gartner, the control
approach helps users to connect their devices to the network in a secure
manner. Users are happy because they can connect the devices they want to
use, and the company might also save in endpoint purchases. At the same
time, the company can monitor how users use the network and restrict
resources from access by particular devices, as necessary. The company can
also ensure devices that connect to the network are free of malware.

Block—This approach is for companies that have high security requirements
and that do not want to allow BYOD at this time. Only managed devices are
allowed to connect to the network.
