A.
A performance counter alert

B.
A configuration data collector

C.
A performance counter data collector

D.
An event trace data collector

Explanation:
Performance alerts notify you when a specified performance counter exceeds your

immediately when the counter exceeds the threshold, you can configure a time period over
which the counter needs to exceed the threshold, to avoid unnecessary alerts.

This answer is correct however dont be deceived by the explanation.
In addition to logging an event, you can also set it to start the Data Collector set:

“Click the Alert Action tab to choose whether to write an entry to the event log Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Diagnosis-PLA/Operational when the alert criteria are met. You can also start a Data Collector Set when the alert criteria are met.”

What I think is going on is:
    – Data Collection Sets have their own scheduled tasks created in the “Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\PLA“ node.
    – a Trigger to start a scheduled task can be an event
    – you can use a A performance counter alert to create this event, therefore starting DCS1

    Does this make sense?

That was definitely crap! I’ve just noticed that a performance counter alert has an option in the Alert Action tab called “Start a data collector set”. The other option in this tab is a check box “Log an entry in the application event log”.
