The MAC address of 0000.00aa.aaaa will be added to the MAC address table.

B.
The MAC address of 0000.00dd.dddd will be added to the MAC address table.

C.
The frame will be forwarded out port fa0/3 only.

D.
The frame will be forwarded out fa0/1, fa0/2, and fa0/3.

E.
The frame will be forwarded out all the active ports.

frame would have been flooded out all ports except for the port that it came from.It will also add
the MAC address of the source device to its MAC address table

  1. Mahlon says:

Is it incorrect to expect that
” The MAC address of 0000.00dd.dddd will be added to the MAC address table ”

    A & D are obvious results.

I expected that B. would also take place.
I would expect the node to RESPOND to that flood
and provide the switch with and ack to populate the
MAC address table on that physical int.

Please help me conceptualize why my expectation is incorrect.

  2. Mohammad Arif Khan says:

    @Mahlon

The reason why option B is not considered is because the question says
“What two operations will the switch perform when it receives this frame from Host A”

    Notice ‘receives from Host A’

I hope you understand how I concluded the frame is from Host A.

The frame will be flooded out fa0/1, fa0/2, and fa0/3
Option B would take place when the switch gets a response from host D

    Hope its clear

    Regards
