How does DPM regulates the power usage of VMs on a host? It can regulate power consumption of all VMs on all hosts by moving the VMs around.
On the other hand, it does not just power off the host during peak-hours.
DPM checks the current utilization of virtual machines (usage of resources such as RAM and CPU) and if there are enough resources on other hosts it transfers the VMs on to them and powers off the host. In that way it conserves power. When the utilization of resources start to rise again it powers on the hosts and distributes the load.
