Roaming profiles don’t work with older versions of Windows. To fix this, they put the Windows Profile version after the username.

Windows XP and earlier doesn’t have a version, but count up from Windows 7 and v2:

    Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 = v2
    Windows 8 / Server 2012 = v3
    Windows 8.1 / Server 2012 R2 = v4
    Windows 10 / Server 2016 = v5
