What is most likely causing this issue?

A Storage Administrator wants to use all available bandwidth to connect a VMware ESXi host to a
VNX. They decide to use the CNAs as well as some NICs. They do this so they can utilize FCoE
for some VMs and iSCSI for other VMs. They notice that the VMs using FCoE do not have access
to their LUNs.

You can configure ESXi hosts with multiple SCSI transports, such as Fibre Channel
HBAs, and iSCSI software adapters, but accessing the same LUN with multiple SCSI
transport types is not supported. For example, a host can access LUN 0 using FC and LUN 1
using iSCSI, but it cannot access LUN 2 using iSCSI and FC.

From EMC’s VNX-VMware techbook (available on Powerlink, document no. h8229, page 32):

“VNX and ESXi support one SCSI transport type at a time. An ESXi host can access a LUN using an FCoE, FC, or iSCSI interface. However, accessing the same device [e.g. a single LUN] using different SCSI transport protocols is unsupported.”
