      The first two successful pings indicate that the NIC and the TCP/IP stack are functioning properly. That eliminates B and C. The first unsuccessful ping indicates that the host cannot reach its gateway. There is no way to determine if there is a physical layer problem downstream of the router since you cannot even reach the router. That would only leave a physical layer issue between the host and the router. Only D works in this case.
