    It seems like the MX record is still pointing to the Internal Exchange Server which leads to routing all mails sent to Exchange Online users to go through the local one. When MX record is pointing directly to Exchange Online – there will be just a few SMTP traffic and it will be Inbound. (as most of the users are already Online)
