Which two actions should you perform?

Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com. The domain contains two
member servers named Server1 and Server2 that run Windows Server 2012 R2. Both servers have
the Hyper-V server role installed.
The network contains an enterprise certification authority (CA). All servers are enrolled
automatically for a certificate-based on the Computer certificate template.
On Server1, you have a virtual machine named VM1. VM1 is replicated to Server2.
You need to encrypt the replication of VM1.
Which two actions should you perform? (Each correct answer presents part of the solution. Choose
two.)

A.
On Server1, modify the Hyper-V Settings.

B.
On Server2, modify the settings of VM1.

C.
On Server2, modify the Hyper-V Settings.

D.
On Server1, modify the settings of VM1.

E.
On Server1, modify the settings of the virtual switch to which VM1 is connected.

F.
On Server2, modify the settings of the virtual switch to which VM1 is connected.

Explanation:
B)
Each virtual machine that is to be replicated must be enabled for replication (on the replica server
– Server2).
C)

To configure the Replica server (here Server2)
In Hyper-V Manager, click Hyper-V Settings in the Actions pane.
In the Hyper-V Settings dialog, click Replication Configuration.
In the Details pane, select Enable this computer as a Replica server.
In the Authentication and ports section, select the authentication method. For either authentication
method, specify the port to be used (the default ports are 80 for Kerberos over HTTP and 443 for
certificate-based authentication over HTTPS).
If you are using certificate-based authentication, click Select Certificate and provide the request
certificate information.

Based on what are you making that decision?

The question clearly states: “You need to encrypt the replication of VM1” not the VM1 itself.
So I’d stick with the answers that are provided, please correct me if i’m wrong 🙂

        Hi Theodore =]

The question ask to replicate a VM on Server 1 to Server 2. In order to do it, enable replication on the replica server ( Server 2) and set the replication on VM1, VM1 is on Server 1.

  1. TDAC says:

    Answer is C & D

    1. Server 2 needs to be enabled for replication. This is done in the Hyper-V settings. When you tick “Enable this computer as a Replica server”, you expose the options to use Kerberos (HTTP) or Certificate Based (HTTPS) authentication.

    Obviously HTTPS (SSL) is encrypted.

    2. On Server 1, you need to enable VM1 for replication. This is done by clicking on VM1, and going to Enable Replication. Here you can choose with replica server you want to replicate to. The next step is to pick the authentication type (Kerberos or Certificate based).

    Therefore – Answers are C & D.

*Note: B makes no because it is the replica (the copy) of VM1 on Server 1. Changing things here won’t make any difference to the way the data is replicated.

Guys, i think you overlooking one key point!

Server 1 cannot send VM1 as encrypted data until Server1 has been issued with a Client/Server certificate.

you will need to modify the Hyper-V Settings on both server 1 and server 2 to enable use Certificate based authentication HTTPS

Step three would be to change the settings of VM1, On Server1,

Hoooly shit! Great! That’s what I’m talking about! The problem is the question asks two actions! The correct answer should be A, C?
If I don’t mark hyper-v settings on server 1 “Use certificate-based auth…” check box, I’m unable to select it later, when configuring VM1 replication, and just Kerberos Auth will be available.
