For the cryptography settings, one can access a tab with the same name, when we make a duplicate template. That is the place for cryptography settings. Request handling only specifies the purpose for the certificate and some other related settings.
I don’t really understand why these questions ARE NOT CLEAR: if the question said “cryptography”, I expect to see an option in the answers list, for the “Cryptography” tab and not for something else. Maybe, it will be better for us to have an option when we post a comment, to attach an image, that will bring additional info.

    This answer is wrong.
If you’re duplicating the cert, you need to issue it.

Being the 2008 box can’t request the cert, it’s likely due to the Compatibility being set to 2012 or higher.

So, assuming everything else is right, I’d say:
    make a copy
    change the compatibility
    issue the new template
