Background
You are employed as a SharePoint administrator at ABC, whose SharePoint 2010 environment is
hosted on SharePoint Online and a separate on-premises SharePoint 2010 farm. Preparations are
currently underway to upgrade to SharePoint 2013. Further preparations are being made to make
sure that a hybrid on-premises/cloud deployment is supported.
ABC works together with a subsidiary company on numerous projects.
Technical Environment
ABC’s user groups are located in their Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain, named
ABC.com.
ABC’s SharePoint Online environment has the Microsoft assigned URL
http://ABC.sharepoint.com. https://ABC.admin.sharepoint.com is ABC’s SharePoint Online
Administration Center URL. ABC makes use of admin@ABC.com as their Office 365 administrator
user name. An OData service is provided by a current line-of-business application, which is hosted
in a Microsoft Windows Azure SQL Database.
ABC’s business projects’ site collections are located in the on-premises SharePoint farm, while
shared projects’ site collections are located in SharePoint Online.
Business Prerequisites
Both internal and external users should be able to access all SharePoint 2013 features. Thirdparty suppliers should be allowed to view and alter documents.
ABC’s shared projects site collection users have the ability to share content from their Microsoft
Outlook clients, as well as receive content sent directly to the site via e-mail by external users.
ABC’s business projects site collections should allow for internal users to connect from outside of
ABC’s network, without the need for a VPN connection.
Technical Prerequisites
An upgraded test copy of ABC’s shared projects site collection should be created prior to
upgrading the actual site. ABC employees, associates, and clients should be authenticate via Use
Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0. The local AD FS 2.0 servers for AD FS single
sign-on (SSO) should be used to automate signing in. You have to make sure that a web usage
report can be made available for any site. The web usage report should include traffic, search, and
inventory reports.
Subsequent to upgrading, user profile data stored in Active Directory should be accessible in
SharePoint Online. Furthermore, sites should have the ability to share a mail-enabled document
library located in the cloud. Also, Microsoft Business Connectivity Services (BCS) should be used
to consume the current line-of-business application as an external content type. The ABC’s shared
projects site collection must allow ABC and their subsidiary users to share documents with thirdparty vendors on an ad-hoc basis. This should not without call for further licensing conditions.
