The answer should be A. You need to use Server Manager to install the AD binaries BEFORE running the AD installation wizard.

Liron, that link you provides shows a page relating to 2003 server.

  2. jx says:

    Another shady question.

You are tasked with deploying a NEW windows 2012 server r2 domain controller (line 4). So that means its NOT yet installed on this NEW server and AD does exist in this network. So you would have to go thru AD wizard. You are given the enable GC option when installing the AD since this is an additional domain controller. B is unfortunately correct here.

It seems that everybody (me too) tends to overthinking on questions .
Anyway GC as nothing to do with dns role itself as suggested by jx .
But to complete this task you’ll install a DC created as GC and dns services .
So B it’s correct in my opinion.
Conclusion :those questions should end with “Choose the best that apply” instead of “correct answer”

  3. Lucky says:

B will be correct because the statement says “you are tasked to deploy a new Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller”. A would be correct if that statement was not there. Server Manager would only be used in the case whereby AD was already installed and GC was not enabled.

Installing AD DS by using Server Manager

AD DS can be installed in Windows Server 2012 by using the Add Roles Wizard in Server Manager, followed by the Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard, which is new beginning in Windows Server 2012. The Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard (dcpromo.exe) is deprecated beginning in Windows Server 2012.

The following sections explain how to create server pools in order to install and manage AD DS on multiple servers, and how to use the wizards to install AD DS.

Therefore A, once you can’t go directly to the DS config wizard.
