      Today, but that wasn’t always the case. If you were a new Network Admin. for a company that still used old routers for a minor system, you’re straight out of luck and you might end up overthinking things on why they didn’t work all because you overlooked that one simple principle. I know an instance of some Network Admins who did an entire weeks worth of work only to discover that the solution to the problem was a simple one-line configuration that they overlooked. It applies here too. If you don’t keep the general rule and practice of using cross for similar devices, and straight for different category devices then you might get boned.
