    doubt the answer to this question as in order to perform application consistent snapshots writes must be quiesced using a mechanism of some kind. The only answer that seems to fit is A as snapshots are volume level irrespective of whats in the volume.

    I believe the answer is indeed “D”. The question is asking which statement is NOT true, and “D” states that “because it is instantaneous”, the a NetApp snapshot is “always” consistent. As stated in an earlier comment, something must quiesce operations and flush writes to set the volume to a consistent state BEFORE that instantaneous snap.
