Before you install AD FS on a computer that will become a federation server proxy, read about the importance of obtaining a server authentication certificate—for federation server proxy farms—adding or sharing certificates across all the servers in a farm.

  2. MCSE says:

Yes, You will need to install ADSF & ADFS Proxy on the same server.

For the federation servers, obtain two dedicated servers, and then:
Install AD FS on both servers.
Configure one as the first federation server in a new farm.
Join the second one to the farm.

For the proxies, obtain two dedicated servers that you can place in the extranet:
Install AD FS on both servers.
Configure them for either the Web Application Proxy role or the federation server proxy role.
