Thick LUNs will perform significantly better than Thin LUNs. When virtual provisioning is
required, use “Thin Enabled” file systems created from Thick LUNs from a block Pool or
Classic LUNs from RAID Groups if performance is a prime concern. If space efficiency is the
prime concern of the file system, create it using Thin LUNs from a block Pool. File systems
created from Thin LUNs can utilize block deduplication and compression and reclaim unused
space to the block pool as files are deleted from the file system. The storage efficiency of
file system built from Thin LUNs is discussed in further detail later in this course.
