  1. Joshua Dreifreund says:

IPS doesn’t need to be dual-homed, since it doesn’t usually sit inline. It can use the same NIC and IP for network monitoring and for management.

Depending on the work load, they might need “fast” NICs, but what is “fast”? They will need to be fast enough to cope with requests from the client computers, and the upstream link. 1000 clients with 100mbps NICs and an upstream link of 1Gbps, lots of traffic, probably need a nice fast NIC 1Gpbs or 10Gpbs. But 5 clients with 100mbps NICs and a 20mbps upstream link, light traffic, maybe a 100mbps NIC is good enough

C, depends greatly on the workload which could vary dramatically between Proxies and IDS/IPS.
A is necessary for IPS/IDS but not PRoxies

B is probably what they want, but D is also possible.
