Are we talking about a Domain Password or a Local password?
Either way a technician worth its salt would have means to reset them as opposed to crack them.
1. If it is a Domain password, the technitian can use ADS to reset it
2. If it is a local password, the techntiian can login with the local admin account and then reset the password.
As far as I know, the two options above are common industry practices.
Now for the incorrect answers:
B.To change a user passwords when they leave the company
The standard practice when users leave the company is to disable the account (let it be domain and /or local)
C.To enforce password complexity requirements
This is done via group policy, and cracking a password will do nothing to that avail
D.To change user passwords if they have forgotten them
Best practices dictate that the technician must reset the password of the user, and set it to “the user must change the password at next logon”
So the best answer is indeed: A. to look for weak passwords on the network
A password cracker will be able to expose weak passwords on a network.
