One Comment on “Which DNS Query Types pertains to email?

  1. The Dude says:

    E is correct. MX queries are for Email.

    When an e-mail message is sent through the Internet, the sending mail transfer agent (MTA) queries the Domain Name System for MX records of each recipient’s domain name. This query returns a list of host names of mail exchange servers accepting incoming mail for that domain and their preferences. The sending agent then attempts to establish an SMTP connection.

    A? == Address record.

    NS? == Delegates a DNS zone to use the given Authoritave name servers.

    SOA? == Start of (a zone of ) authority record.

    PTR? == Pointer record: pointer to a canonical name. (for reverse DNS lookups)

    TXT? == Text record

    Instead of memorizing look up what each one of the answer choices means and you guys saying there isn’t any right answer would have quickly came up with E as a right answer.
