One Comment on “what is the effect on the switch ports?

  1. Adrian (Needs Help/validation) says:

If you enable BPDU filter globally it only applies to portfast enabled ports.

If portfast is disabled on the ports then globally enabling BPDU filtering has no effect, i.e. BPDU filtering is effectively off on the ports.

If BPDU filtering & portfast are off on the relevant ports then they will behave normally, i.e. they will send and receive BPDUs.

The fact that we are looking at BPDU filtering not BPDU guard means that there is no chance of the port being err-disabled as filtering does not err-disable ports.

BPDU guard only err-disables ports if a BPDU is received.
