MetroPoint has the ability to protect a distributed VPLEX virtual volume at both of the VPLEX Metro clusters. A RecoverPoint cluster is attached to each VPLEX Metro site. One RecoverPoint cluster is the active production copy and the other RecoverPoint cluster is the standby production copy. The active production copy replicates data to the remote cluster. The standby production cluster does exactly the same thing as the active production cluster except that it does not replicate to the remote cluster. It does, however, maintain an up-to-date journal so that the standby production cluster can instantly become the active production cluster and continue data protection without disruption. In addition, the MetroPoint topology supports a local copy at each side of the distributed volume. The two local copies are independent of each other. The standby production copy is only standby relative to the link to the remote copy. It actively replicates to its local copy, if present.
