However, the situation is a bit more complicated for an MSM765 zl’s LAN port. Inaddition
tocarrying network traffic to the controller’s LAN port, the <slot>2 portcarries Services
Management Agent (SMA) communications between the MSM765 zlmodule and the switch.
These communications enable the switch to detect themodule’s status and to support the
controller’s CLI, which you access by enteringservices <slot> name msm765-application from the
switch’s global configurationmode.
The communications also deliver the clock to the MSM765 zl. When configuring the
MSM765 zl, you will notice that the settings in its Controller >> Management >
System time window are disabled. You should make sure that the switchadministrator sets the
clock on the switch, preferably to a Simple Network TimeProtocol (SNTP) server.
For all of these reasons, you must never disable the <slot>2 port. Keep this rule inmind as you
