  1. Mark says:

Very confusing. VMware seems to call the VMXNET2 adapter the Enhanced VMXNET adapter, just look under the VMXNET2 heading here:
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1001805

I have checked my system, and (depending on selected OS) have seen E1000, E1000E, Flexible, VMXNET3 and VMXNET2 (Enhanced). Then again, when selecting a VM Hardware version earlier than 8 will show most of those.
So we have VMXNET1 (Flexible), VMXNET2 (Enhanced), E1000 and VMXNET3.

The fact that VMware uses VMXNET2 and Enhanced VMXNET interchangeably makes this a difficult question. Do we choose B, because it’s missing the ‘2’, or do we choose C because it’s missing the ‘(Enhanced)’
Has there ever been a VMXNET2 without the (Enhanced) trailing it? If so, we’d need a vSphere 4 to check, on my 5.1 it’s no longer possible, even if I choose HW version 7 or below.

Your pick, B or C. Heads or tails.
