D is correct.
When you enter a new maintenance period that follows the expiration of a backup, the vSphere Data Protection Appliance removes its reference to the backup data and you cannot restore the expired backup. The vSphere Data Protection Appliance determines whether the backup data is used by any other restore point, and if the system determines that the data is not used, the data is removed and the disk capacity becomes available.

I guess it should be D

Think it might actually be D.

D is correct

Space is freed only during the next Blackout/Maintenance window when performing the Garbage Collection. Therefore, only backups after the next Blackout/Maintenance window can start.

I’m torn between A and D
Sample: retention Policy is 60 Days. then VDP is keeping it for 60 Days. After that the Maintenance Tasks Garbage Process will clean up and delete the Backup.

Correct D .
Upon entering a new maintenance period following the expiration of a backup, the VDP appliance removes its reference to the backup data and thereafter you cannot restore the expired backup. The VDP
appliance determines if the backup data is being used by any other restore point and, if the system determines that the data is not being used, the data is removed and the disk capacity frees up.

Agree. It´s D
During MAINTENANCE periods, VDP examines the backups in the appliance and evaluates whether the backup
retention period has expired. If it has expired, VDP REMOVES the expired backup from the appliance.
