Which statement is true about clustered Data ONTAP 8.2 node based licensing?

A.
When replacing a controller for a RMA the key is automatically updated to the serial number of
new controller.
B.
When replacing a controller for a RMA, a new key is needed but the existing key will work for
90 days.
C.
A new clustered Data ONTAP 8.2 installation can use both 8.1 keys and 7-Mode keys.
D.
Replacing a NVRAM card in a controller will NOT require new license keys for that mode.
Explanation:

I think its A.

if a controller that runs data ontap 8.2 fails and must be replaced, or if you upgrade the controller, the existing licence key will not work with the replacement controller.

Sorry that should say A 🙂

Infact no, i think it should be A because a new key is required for the new controller.

The correct answer is D because license keys are linked to controller serial number and replacing NVRAM wont make any difference.

The correct answer appears to be A. See the last section about 8.2 systems.

Break-fix Head-Swaps
Why does Data ONTAP 8.2 report that a controller is running under a ‘grace period’?
If you have replaced a controller running Data ONTAP 8.2 7-Mode due to a break-fix, and a takeover and giveback was performed by the partner controller in an HA Pair, the features that were licensed on the failed controller automatically become enabled on the new replacement controller under a 90 day ‘grace period’. To exit the grace period, install permanent license keys for the features. Contact your Support representative to complete the Entitlement Transfer process and obtain your new license keys.
For clustered Data ONTAP 8.2, there is no 90 day grace period (as long as a valid license key is installed on one of the nodes in the cluster, the related features will remain fully functional).

Controller or Motherboard Replacements – With Data ONTAP 8.2, these always require new license keys due to the change in the controller (System) Serial Number (8.2 license keys are locked to the Controller Serial Number). If you require new license keys for a HW Replacement scenario, contact CSS.
