Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com.

The Active Directory sites are configured as shown in the Sites exhibit. (Click the Exhibit button.)

Connections. The KCC creates connections that enable domain controllers to replicate with each other. A connection defines a one-way, inbound route from one domain controller, the source, to another domain controller, the destination. The KCC reuses existing connections where it can, deletes unused connections, and creates new connections if none exist that meet the current need.

Bridgehead Servers. To communicate across site links, the KCC automatically designates a single server, called the bridgehead server, in each site to perform site-to-site replication. Subsequent replication occurs by replication within a site. When site links are established, authorized administrators can designate the bridgehead servers that they want to receive replication between sites. By designating a specific server to receive replication between sites, rather than using any available server, authorized administrators can specify the most beneficial conditions for the connection between sites. Bridgehead servers ensure that most replication occurs within sites rather than between sites.

“From the DC4 server object, create a Connection object for DC1.” this replicate in the same site.
The question sayd: You need to ensure that DC1 and DC4 are the only servers that replicate Active Directory CHANGES BETWEEN THE SITES.
then the answer A is correct!!!

      Im voting for “B”
KCC have to automatically assign bridgehead in Seattle. There is only one server there thats DC1.(half of the task is resolved)

At Montreal site is a bit messy WE DONT KNOW WHO IS WHAT – so lets set DC4 as bridgehead in that case the only talking will be between DC1 and DC4.

    Bridgehead Servers
The ISTG creates a replication topology between sites on a site link. To make replication more efficient, one domain controller is selected to be the bridgehead server. The bridgehead server is responsible for all replication into and out of the site for a partition. For xample, if a data center site contains five DCs, one of the DCs will be the bridgehead server for the domain naming context.
All changes made to the domain partition within the data center will replicate to all DCs in the site. When the changes reach the bridgehead server, those changes will be replicated to bridgehead servers in branch offices, which in turn replicate the changes to DCs in their sites.
Similarly, any changes to the domain naming context in branch offices will be replicated from the branches’ bridgehead servers to the bridgehead server in the data center, which in turn replicates the changes to other DCs in the data center.
To summarize, the bridgehead server is the server responsible for replicating changes to a partition from other bridgehead servers in other sites. It is also polled by bridgehead servers in other sites to determine when it has changes that they should replicate.

Connections are one way communication. Establishing a single connection (Answers C or D) would fail to meet the objective. Manually designating DC4 as the preferred bridgehead server will ensure that DC4 and DC1 are the only domain controllers replicating directory changes between the sites. Leaving replication up to the KCC, you could end up with any server in Montreal acting as the bridgehead to Seattle.

  4. Jim Manning says:

Ok – so this is a poorly worded question.
    – For the answer to be C – The question would need to be something like – How would you ensure that DC1 replicates to DC4 only? This is because Connections are one-way inbound only designated at the target.
But the question asks about synchronizing between DC! and DC4 which insinuates a bi-directional synchronization, ergo answer C is wrong.

Actually B would be correct… and here’s why.

If you read the description of Bridgehead servers:
The ISTG creates a replication topology between sites on a site link. To make replication more efficient, one DC is selected to be the bridgehead server. The bridgehead server is responsible for all replication into and out of the site for a partition. Once the Bridgehead Server synchronizes it is then responsible for replicating to the other servers in the site.

Therefore, because DC1 is the only DC in that domain it is automatically the bridgehead for that site when you set up other sites. So all you need to do is specify its replication partner in the other site by manually designating DC4 as the bridgehead for that site.

So the correct answer is B
