You are creating a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package that implements a Type 3 Slowly Changing
Dimension (SCD). You need to add a task or component to the package that allows you to implement the SCD
logic. What should you use?

A.
a Script component
B.
an SCD component
C.
an Aggregate component
D.
a Merge component
Why not a SCD component (task)?

The Slowly Changing Dimension transformation does not support Type 3 changes, which require changes to the dimension table. By identifying columns with the fixed attribute update type, you can capture the data values that are candidates for Type 3 changes.

How does a merge component solve this problem?

I can understand a t-sql merge but not a merge task I guess.

same here, it would make sense to have an answer make a t-sql merge query, but the merge component is pretty much just an UNION. I hope this doesn’t get really asked in the exam.

I would reply “A.) Script component” because in a script component you can implement SCD type 3 manually.
If option D.) was “T-SQL merge” I would definitely choose that one. But not a merge component in SSIS.

How about
an Execute SQL task that executes a MERGE statement on the database
