There is no mention of using SQL for the VMM databases. According to the link in Cloudy’s reply, the databases can also be stored on the VMM Management server. In that case you should backup the VMM Management server instead of the SQL server, right?

@Jerry, you are correct.
It’s also best practice to backup the System State of the VMM Management Server so that you can recover the server with the same SID. So in the real world you’ll be backing that up, too.
