  3. Stoyan Stoyanov says:

The UEFI pre-boot networking capabilities facilitate the ProLiant DL580 Gen8
    server’s ability for Intelligent Provisioning.

    Intelligent Provisioning replaces the
process of using CDs/DVDs for loading or updating firmware and software let you
connect directly to the HP website to download drivers and firmware, perform
updates, and install the operating system in the same step. Re-imaging a system’s
drive remotely from a backup server is also possible.

  4. Joan Baltazar says:

    ThisGuy,

It’s very well. From there I take this paragraph.

    Server deployment user options
Intelligent Provisioning is the initial configuration and deployment tool for ProLiant Gen8 or Gen9 servers and serves the same purpose that SmartStart did for previous generation servers. You can use Intelligent Provisioning to update the system firmware and drivers from the HP Support Center on hp.com, or through a local repository on your own network.

    1. Larry says:

The article only says that the server is configured to boot from SAN but not through IP…

      According to this article:

      https://www.hpe.com/us/en/product-catalog/detail/pip.5219984.html

You can INSTALL drivers, as well as the OS. In spite of not mentioning “firmware installation” the firmware is always there in a system, “updating” firmware as stated in the article can be also an install for me. (as we always say “did you install the new firmware?” or “did you updated the firmware?” – both valid)

I searched for long in the web for Boot from SAN with IP but couldn’t find anything, the only three boot posibilities that IP gives are: “hd, usb, cdrom, pxe‛

for more info about IP you can see this article.

      http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03651516

      I’d go for C & D
