Optimized WLAN architectures
HP uses the optimized WLAN architecture—an architecture that capitalizes on thestrengths of the
centralized WLAN architecture while overcoming its limitations.
With the optimized WLAN architecture, you still have all the benefits of configuringand managing
APs, which might be deployed at several sites, from a centralizedcontroller. However, you also
have much more flexibility in how traffic is distributedonto the wired network and how
authentication and access control measures areapplied.
You can configure an optimized WLAN architecture to:
-Use APs to enforce user authentication to an external server and to bridge users’wireless traffic
directly onto the wired network
-Use the controller to enforce user authentication (to a local database or anexternal server), but
allow APs to forward authenticated users’ wireless trafficdirectly onto the wired network
-Use the controller to handle both users’ authentication and the forwarding of allwireless user traffic
