Explanation:
IMAP provides the same types of functionality as POP, but has more
capabilities and functionality. If a user is using POP when he accesses his mail
server to see if he has received any new messages, all messages are automatically

This is not a good question. I have experience using POP to leave messages on the server. Wikipedia says: “Although most POP clients have an option to leave mail on server after download, e-mail clients using POP generally connect, retrieve all messages, store them on the user’s PC as new messages, delete them from the server, and then disconnect.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_Office_Protocol). But how people use protocols does not describe a difference between the protocols themselves.

Agreed, however, I believe this is one of those “don’t get too technical” questions. Traditionally, POP downloads and IMAP stores, so A is the correct answer. I would much rather have seen POP downloads and IMAP synchronizes since they can both be configured to leave messages on the server, but only IMAP will allow you to synchronize your sent items, for example, with your server account.
