One Comment on “which technology will be performed on this device?

  1. Dean says:

The question states that the phone traffic and the office computer data “must be on DIFFERENT NETWORKS.” When I think of different networks, I think of layer 3. When I think of layer 2 switching and VLANs, I think of the same NETWORK segment with it’s data types segregated by VLANs. And since they were nice enough to provide a viable layer 3 alternative pairing in the question (Router & Sub-interfaces), this is what I would think they want the answer to be based on the way in which they’ve phrased the question.

That being said, I do agree that switches and VLANs are a better way to segregate phone and computer traffic; But the question should have been worded more clearly. For example: “The phone traffic and computer data traffic must be segregated.” “The phone traffic and computer data traffic must not touch.”

This way, both the layer 2 and layer 3 methods are still viable answers, but the test taker must pick the more efficient one.

I really hate the way they phrase their questions. One moment you’ll get an answer wrong because of a keyword in the phrasing of the question, so you train your brain to look out for subtleties in the phrasing indicating how they want you to answer a question, just to have it not apply sometimes, and apply other times. Not a fair assessment of my abilities.
