PrepAway - Latest Free Exam Questions & Answers

A.
When an EIP is allocated.

B.
When it is allocated and associated with a running instance.

C.
When it is allocated and associated with a stopped instance.

D.
Costs are incurred regardless of whether the EIP is associated with a running instance.

Explanation:

If you no longer need an EIP, we recommend that you release it (the address must not be associated with an
instance). You incur charges for any EIP that’s allocated for use with EC2-Classic but not associated with an
instance.

To ensure efficient use of Elastic IP addresses, we impose a small hourly charge if an Elastic IP address is not associated with a running instance, or if it is associated with a stopped instance or an unattached network interface. While your instance is running, you are not charged for one Elastic IP address associated with the instance, but you are charged for any additional Elastic IP addresses associated with the instance. For more information, see Amazon EC2 Pricing.

    Answer C:

You can have one Elastic IP (EIP) address associated with a running instance at no charge. If you associate additional EIPs with that instance, you will be charged for each additional EIP associated with that instance per hour on a pro rata basis.

•EC2-Classic: We disassociate any Elastic IP address that’s associated with the instance. You’re charged for Elastic IP addresses that aren’t associated with an instance. When you restart the instance, you must associate the Elastic IP address with the instance; we don’t do this automatically.

EC2-VPC: The instance retains its associated Elastic IP addresses. You’re charged for any Elastic IP addresses associated with a stopped instance.

There is no cost for Elastic IP addresses while in use.You only pay for the Elastic IP when it’s not attached to an instance.

So you should pay $0 for the month if it’s attached all time. (Well, you maybe have to pay $0.01 for the few minutes it’s unattached when you create the IP the very first time.)

“C” is right answer only for Free tier and that too only for one IP.

If we talk about Non-Free tier or more than 1 IP with the Free tier, the answer would be D.

    I will go with D

    C. When it is allocated and associated with a stopped instance.

you are allowed one EIP to be attached to a running instance at no charge. otherwise, it will incur a small fee. in this case, the instance is stopped, and thus, the EIP will be billed at the normal rate. more here:

To ensure the efficient use of Elastic IP addresses, apply a small charge per hour when these IP addresses are not associated with a running instance or when associated with a stopped instance or uncoupled network interface.

You can have an Elastic IP address (EIP) associated with a running instance, for free. If you associate additional EIPs this instance, you will be charged for each additional EIP associated with this instance by proportional hours. Additional EIPs are only available in Amazon VPC.

    A is the answer.

Once you allocate an EIP charging will start on the first hour until you associate it to a running instance.

You need to use the EIP to stop the charge.
